Microsoft Bing Desktop released today provides an automatic update of the Windows Desktop Background image to the Bing home page image each day. In addition, Bing Desktop offers an easily accessible yet unobstrusive search box to streamline searching without opening the browser.

Once the installation is done you have three choices to make in the below dialog box which includes setting your desktop wallpaper to Bing's Image of the Day, setting your homepage to MSN on IE and setting Bing as your default search provider on IE.

Additionally, the software will provide a Bing search bar on the computer's homescreen, putting the web page only one click away. It can be pinned to the top of the screen, and will auto-hide when not in use. It can be positioned in the center of the screen as well, and features the "Windows + H" hotkey for fast access.

If you click the settings icon on the far right you will get a context menu that will allow you to pin the search box at the top of your screen. When it is not in use it disappears from view and by hovering your mouse at the top of the screen you will see the bottom border of the box and a left click brings it into view so you can use it.

That same context menu also lets you start this program when Windows starts up, place the daily Bing Image on your desktop and activate the keyboard shortcut of Windows Key + H to bring up the search box.

Users will be able to search for what interests them straight from the desktop, while viewing the search results in the computer's default browser.

You can download the Bing Desktop Beta from the Microsoft Download Center.
