New in Google Docs "Centralized Comments Menu, Better Text & Images Search in PDFs" and More! - Lowers Google Cloud Storage Prices

Google Docs rolling out improved discussions, search scanned text in PDFs, and more:

If you want to see a log of all of the comments that have been made whether you're using drawings, documents, or presentations. You can now just "click on the "Comments" button in the upper right corner of the editor to see a complete history of your discussions," informs Google.

You can reply in line, resolve or re-open comments, link directly to a comment, or change notification settings--without ever leaving the "Comments" menu.

Better text search for PDFs and images
Google Docs feature that let you search for text inside the PDFs in your documents list — now, let you "search for and copy highlighted text when you open a scanned PDF, like a fax or hotel receipt."

Google also made text in PDFs and images uploaded to Google Sites searchable.

In addition to the above features, now you can:

  • Add custom Javascript and CSS to your Google Sites
  • See full names in document and presentation comments (instead of showing email addresses)
  • Use keyboard shortcuts for navigating between table cells in documents
  • Cancel running scripts from the Google Apps Script editor
  • Add donut charts and error bars in spreadsheets

Also, the following features are now available to domains — applicable to Google Apps, Google Apps for Business, Government and Education:

  • Contacts: Google Contacts integration with profiles and Google+ circles
  • Presentations: New presentations editor is now the default editor, also has discussions just like in Docs
  • Spreadsheets: Menu options are now supported in right-to-left languages
  • Gmail: Open to: email links directly in Chrome

Since Google Cloud Storage graduated from preview last year, many developers have tapped directly into Google's storage capabilities.

For those new, "Google Cloud Storage enables developers to store and access massive amounts of data on Google's infrastructure with high reliability, availability and performance."

To tap more customers, Google announcing lower storage prices to make it even more affordable to store your data in Google's cloud. The new pricing will be effective retroactively from March 1st, 2012.
