Nokia sent out press invitations to a press conference scheduled on February 27 at 8:30am at Mobile World Congress 2012. The press invitation, which simply said "Adventure in Barcelona" did not include any hints about the news to come.

Company's usually hold a press confernce when they have to anounce something, Forbes recently reported that Nokia will be launching at least one high-end phone at the event, with an "unusual software feature" according to one of Nokia's partners. With that, we can safely expect a new Windows Phone from the Microsoft and Nokia at the event.

Tech blogs buzzing for awhile over the kinds of news Nokia might have at MWC. One prevalent rumor concerned a high-end, speedy HSPA+ smartphone called the Lumia 910. Nokia recently debunked that rumor.

Other blogs have speculated about a Windows 8 tablet debut and new phones running Symbian, Nokia's longtime operating system.

Now, WPDang reports that according to their sources, Nokia is set to announce the "Lumia 730" at MWC: Here is the translation of the original text:

"According to our sources, Nokia will be releasing another Windows Phone positioned between the Lumia 710 and 800. The device will have similar specifications as the Lumia 710, and will not sport the ClearBlack Display screen and polycarbonate casing. However, the device will come pre-loaded with Windows Phone "Tango", and include some of Tango's unique features. The phone will support both LTE and CDMA networks. In addition, the phone will have capacitive buttons at the front, rather than physical buttons like the Lumia 710. It will be slightly larger than the Lumia 710, with a curved back casing. The phone will feature an 8 megapixels camera, with optics similar to the Nokia E7.

The Lumia 730 will be priced similar to the Lumia 710, however will be launched in the European markets first instead."

In other Windows Phone news, "Tango" update, which is said to come before the Windows Phone 8, codenamed "Apollo", is in short "all about Nokia" and "focused on hitting the lower-price point for Windows Phones that Microsoft and Nokia have been promising," according to MJF. The following two "Tango" updates are reportedly coming:

  • Tango1 aims to "further broaden the markets addressed by Windows Phone by adding additional language support", and will bring support for 120+ languages. "Tango" continue will be targeted at "untapped" Windows Phone markets including China.
  • Tango2 will be "targeted at low-cost devices and include fixes and new features, as well as services and language support for markets that still won't have been addressed after the Tango1 release."

Tango's expected schedule is as follows:

  • Late February 2012 - Microsoft will likely announce Windows Phone "Tango" and give a few more details about what's the features update during MWC.
  • April 2012 - A new version of Windows Phone developer SDK is expected. According to Paul Thurrott, developers will be able to test apps on both 256MB "Tango" devices and mainstream 512MB+ devices in emulation. Also, it's said that developers will be given the option to opt out of making their apps compatible with "Tango" if they like, although it might not be desirable if "Tango" proves to be a hit in the markets
  • Q2 2012 - The timing of "Tango" release, according to a leaked roadmap:
