More US Consumers Choosing iPhone 4S Closes the Gap on AndroidAccording to a latest research study report from Nielsen, the launch of Apple's iPhone 4S in the Fall had an enormous impact on the proportion of smartphone owners who chose an Apple iPhone thus stopping Android's seemingly unstoppable rise in the U.S.

Based on the poll of the recent acquirers, and those who said they got a new device within the past three months -- Nielsen reports that "44.5 percent of those said they chose an iPhone, compared to just 25.1 percent in October. Furthermore, 57 percent of new iPhone owners surveyed in December said they got an iPhone 4S."

"Android continues to hold the lead among all smartphone users, with 46.3 percent of all smartphone owners surveyed in Q42011 reporting they have an Android-based mobile phone," reports Nielsen.

Contrast this to just 25.1 percent for Apple in October and 61.1 percent for Android.

NPD also recently found that iPhone 4S during October-November 2011 boosted Apple's U.S. Smartphone share rose from 26 percent to 43 percent of all smartphone sales, while Android devices recorded a drop - "from 60 percent in October to 47 percent of all smartphone sales in the United States in December."

Also, Millennial Media in December reported that iOS went from 28 percent ad requests in October to 30 percent in November while Android went from 56 percent ad requests in October to 50 percent in November.

In addition, ChangeWave Research found that half of planned smartphone purchases in the next 90 days favor Apple, with both the iPhone maker and rival Samsung enjoying "explosive momentum" whilst other handset makers are struggling to grow their sales.

"Based on data obtained from 4,000 North American consumers, 54 percent of respondents planning to buy a smartphone in the next 90 days will opt for an iPhone. This is a drop from 65 percent last quarter, but more than enough to keep the coveted title of the most sought-after device. The iPhone's "industry leading" customer satisfaction remains off the chart at 75 percent by vendor and mobile OS each (3 in 4 iPhone owners said they are 'Very Satisfied' with their device). Google's Android is second with 47 percent mobile OS satisfaction rating and Samsung and HTC are at 47 percent each…"

Change Wave Research 54 percent planning to buy an iPhone

As of Q42011, "46 percent of US mobile consumers had smartphones, and that figure is growing quickly," Nilesen reports. Adding, "In fact, 60 percent of those who said they got a new device within the last three months chose a smartphone over a feature phone," the company said.
