Silverlight 5Just a day after, Silverlight 5 was made available, Microsoft has announced the availability of Silverlight 5 docs and a .chm.

Silverlight 5 offers many new features including:

  • PivotViewer control
  • Trusted applications in-browser
  • 3D graphics
  • Vector printing
  • Improved text rendering including the RichTextBlock control
  • Hardware decode of H.264 media.

In other, Microsoft news, this week, Gartner Inc. published the "Magic Quadrant for Unified Communications as a Service" report (Elliot, Bern, and Dan O'Connell. "Unified Communications as a Service Magic Quadrant." Gartner Research 7 Dec. 2011), which positions Microsoft as a 'challenger in the market.'

"Microsoft was evaluated based on 'ability to execute' and 'completeness of vision,' and Gartner specifically evaluated Office 365 and its unified communications and collaboration capabilities. These capabilities empower people to work together from anywhere with access to email, web conferencing, documents, and calendars," revealed Microsoft.
