Google Introduces New Chromebook Payment Option with Existing 3-year Subscription Model

ChromeBooks was unveiled at the 2011 Google I/O on May 11, and was made available to Businesses and Shools on June 15, are currently manufactured by Samsung and Acer.

The Chromebook is available in 6 other countries along with the United States.

In order to help customer meet their yearly budget cycles, Google in additon to their existing 3-year subscription model, today introduced an alternative payment option.

Annoucing in a October 21 blog post, Glenn Wilson, product manager, Chrome for Business & Education saidt "This new option gives schools and businesses a choice to pay upfront for Chromebooks with one year of access to the web-based admin management console, phone support, and hardware warranty coverage. After the first year, customers can choose to pay a monthly fee for years two and three for management console access and support."

Wilson also mentions in the post that they have also "added a few new features to the web-based management panel to help customers better deploy, monitor and customize their Chromebooks, including group policy management, shipment tracking and asset management."

Acer Chromebook

Here are the details of the new payment options - per Wilsons post:

"Education:

  • 1-Year Upfront: $449 (Wi-Fi), $519 (3G)
  • Years 2-3: $5/month per Chromebook for management & support

Business:

  • 1-Year Upfront: $559 (Wi-Fi), $639 (3G)
  • Years 2-3: $13/month per Chromebook for management & support"
