Google has announced two new features to its social networking project Google+ - the two new features rolling out aims to make it easier to follow and contribute to live events on Google+, including breaking news, sporting events, and many others, revealed Vic Gundotra in a Google Plus post.

The new features are:

Real-time search
"Now when you search in Google+, you'll see a message about new posts the instant they're available. If you click on this message, or select "Most recent", then relevant posts will start appearing in real-time."

Improved hashtag support
"People have long used hashtags to mark their posts with certain topics -- just ask our very own +Chris Messina, hashtag inventor. You don't have to use hashtags on Google+ (search works fine without them), but when you do, we'll automatically link to search results," Gundotra said.

Dalai LamaIn other Google+ news, Google inserted a gaint ad of its social network in the New York Times on the back of the main section, pitching how the Dalai Lama used Google Hangout -- a feature of Google Plus -- to join in 80th birthday celebration of a fellow Nobel laureate, Desmond M. Tutu of South Africa, via hangout after the host government did not grant his visa request.

The ad has copy that originally says the Dalai Lama wasn't able to join the celebration after not being granted a visa, but then those portions are struck-out with new copy inserted to explain how Google Hangouts came to the rescue:

Dalai Lama joined Google+ last week, a few days ahead of the special Google Hangout session.
