Microsoft has outlined, at a high level, approval process for Windows 8 Applications.

The application store is show in the picture below, see the "orange shopping bag" under the IE icon. The store when opened will be a key component of Microsoft's tablet strategy.

As application developers begin submitting their apps, Microsoft has outlined a six-step approval process for app submissions.

The approval process is not as rigorous as Apple's, but incorporates a number of safe guards into approval process to keep malware and other malicious code from executing and spreading onto machines through their "Windows Store".

  3. Technical Compliance (6 hours)
  4. Content Compliance (6 hours)
  5. Signing and Publishing (2 hours)
