Microsoft is offering a help to customers who are experiencing issues with writing and reading media on their Windows PCs.

In this regard, the Redmond software giant has published an automated fix designed to resolve issues related to playing and burning, CDs, DVDs as well as Blue-ray discs drive that can't read or write media

The automated Fix It solution can be downloaded via the Microsoft Support page with the following title: "Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media."

"Automatically diagnose and repair problems with your CD or DVD drive when trying to read or burn media," reads the description of the fix from the software giant.

The automated Fix It solution works on Windows 7 as well as earlier releases of Windows. Users should not hesitate to download and launch it on their machine, especially since it contains a Troubleshooting only mode which will detect any issues, but will not apply fixes unless customers specifically tell it to.

It fixes problems such as

  • Your CD or DVD Drive does not read or write and is shown as disabled
  • The media in your CD or DVD drive cannot be read
  • The media cannot be written to by your CD or DVD drive
  • You receive one of the following errors:
  • In addition, according to Microsoft, the Fix It should also be deployed by Windows customers that have come across error messages such as:
    • "A class specific or device specific driver is missing or corrupt
    • A CD or DVD drive cannot be found or is not connected
    • The CD or DVD drive is experiencing a problem that prevents it from working properly
    • The CD or DVD drive is not accessible via an assigned drive letter"

Add or change an input language in Windows 7

"You can make it easier to enter text or edit documents in multiple languages by changing the input language. Input languages are included with Windows, but you need to add them to your list of languages before you can use them."

Finally, Microsoft is offering a Fix it to help "automatically diagnose and repair problems with devices when the device manager does not detect your hardware, audio, USB, or other devices, or when your devices are disabled or not working."

This Microsoft Fixit problems such as

  • When you install a hardware device, it is not detected
  • Determine if your audio device is plugged in
  • Driver updates aren't automatically installed by Windows Update
  • You receive one of the following errors:
    • Your <Device Name> is currently disabled or turned off in Windows
    • Your <Device Name> has a driver problem and needs to be reinstalled
    • Windows has detected a problem with your <Device Name>, it is not working properly
    • There is no driver installed for your <Device Name>
