PayPal now has more than 100 million active accounts. That's 100 million people around the world who have already trusted PayPal with their digital wallets, Scott Thompson, President, PayPal, blogged today on PayPal official blog.
"But after reaching this important milestone, my colleagues here at PayPal and I believe we need to look forward, not back. Consumers are increasingly giving up traditional payment methods such as cash and checks and turning to a more modern - and anytime, anywhere -- form of payment. We saw this trend beginning more than a decade ago, and built our business model around it to meet the needs of the digital world."
"As the trend toward digital currency continues to gain momentum, we're focused on delivering solutions that are not just new and different, but better than what is currently the norm today," Thompson said.
Thompson also said that by 2015 digital currency will be accepted everywhere in the U.S. - from your local corner store to Walmart. "We'ill no longer need to carry a wallet."
"How confident are we in achieving this goal? So confident that we've asked five Bay area employees to embrace a digital lifestyle and use only digital currency to pay for all of their purchases. The five lucky winners will be announced at an employee event on July 11th," added Thompson.
