Millennial Media: iOS and Android Competing for App Revenue; Windows Phone 7 Ad Impressions Up 92%

Mobile ad network Millennial Media's latest monthly mobile report for May, reveals that "for the sixth consecutive month, Android maintained its position as the leading Smartphone OS on the network with a 53% share, followed by iOS with 27%, RIM with 17% of ad impressions on the network (up 6%ages from last month)."

Millennial says that RIM's rise was due to an increase in BlackBerry Curve impressions on the network. Windows Phone 7 actually showed the highest growth in impressions on Millennial's network, up 92%. But WP7 still has a 1% share compared to their mobile os's.

"Impressions on the iPad grew 29% month-over-month. 70% of impressions on connected devices were from MP3 players or mobile gaming devices. Tablets made up 27% of connected devices by impressions."

"In the revenue driven by apps on Millennial's network, iOS apps and Android apps were close, with 45% coming from iOS and 43% from Android."

"Feature phones experienced a 65 month-over-month increase, and made up 17% of the device OS mix (as opposed to 67% for smartphones and 16% for connected devices)."

"For the 20th straight month, the iPhone maintained its position as the top individual phone on Millennial's network by impression share. Apple was also the leading manufacturer on the network for May with a 30% share."

HTC moved to number four position and represented almost 11% of the Top 15 Manufacturers impression share in May.
