Microsoft Office 2010 is now five times faster than any other previous version -- currently celebrating its first birthday anniversary.

Microsoft Office Vice President Takeshi Numoto today stated that "nearly 50 million people worldwide have adopted Office Web Apps. In fact, business customers are deploying Office 2010 five times faster than they deployed Office 2007. This comes on top of the one year anniversary celebrating Office 2010. This version of Office 2010, apparently the fastest selling version to date, is packed with social networking and online collaboration tools, including Office Web Apps."

When Office 2010 launched last year, Google suggested that users skip the update and instead use Google Apps (a paid feature) to move into the world of online collaboration. But, as Sharon Pian Chan from the Seattle Times notes, Google's most recent estimate of the total number of Google Docs and Google Apps users is 25 million, half of Microsoft's estimated active users.

Unfortunately for Google, the company's most recent statistics indicate that the numer of Google Docs and Google Apps users is 50% of Microsoft's estimated active users.

Microsoft has made a ton of money from its Business Division, with revenues of $5.25 billion in the third quarter of 2011, a 21 percent increase over the same quarter in 2010. A bulk of that money comes from Office sales.
