Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter & Tumblr Reach All-Time Hight in May, ComScore Report

With each passing month it seems that social networking becomes more deeply ingrained into our digital lives. Back in 2007, social networking represented about 1 out of every 12 minutes spent online, while today it accounts for 1 out of every 6 minutes spent online, revealed comScore.

According to a new comScore report, LinkedIn, Twitter and Tumblr - in addition to Facebook - all hit all time hight trafic in the U.S. during May.

"Today Facebook is the 4th largest U.S. web property in audience size with 157.2 million visitors in May, representing all-time high and a gain of 3.2 million visitors vs. the previous month." Facebook now reaches 73% of the total U.S. Internet population each month. One impressive stat to note is that "Facebook's average U.S. visitor engagement has grown from 4.6 hours to 6.3 hours per month over the past year," comScore stated.

The picture isn't so rosy for Myspace -- still the number two social networking site with 34.9 million visitors in May, but that's trending down. ComScore says the site's "audience has declined by nearly 50% in the past year while average user engagement has dropped 85%."

Apart from Facebook, several other leading players in the social networking category who also reached all-time U.S. audience highs:

  • LinkedIn.com: 33.4 million visitors, 58% growth in the past year
  • Twitter.com: 27 million visitors, 13% growth in the past year
  • Tumblr.com: 10.7 million visitors, 166% growth in the past year
