Google Highly Paid Employer, Microsoft Is More Flexible, PayScale Report

According to PayScale report of about technology company salary and job satisfaction, which looked at how tech workers fare at Amazon, Apple, Dell, Facebook, Google, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel and Microsoft.

"Google employees earn the most, while Facebook has the youngest workforce. Microsoft, meanwhile, gives workers the most flexibility when it comes to work and vacation schedules."

The report also shows some of the perks tech workers enjoy. At Amazon, they include restricted stock, transit allowances and pets at work. Facebook gives out free beverages and cell phones. Google is famous for its meals, pets at work policy and day care. Microsoft, meanwhile has paternity leave, health club membership and a casual dress policy.

Amazon and Facebook also were rated "highly stressful" workplaces, above the "stressful" rating for the other companies.

Here're some more details from the report:

  • Median pay for Google employees is 23% higher at other companies and over 10% higher than similar workers at the other big tech companies.
  • A typical worker at Facebook is 26 compared to a typical age of 36 across the other companies.
  • On average, only 25% of the employees at the tech companies are female (compared to over 50% of employees at all companies). Microsoft's tech workforce is 80% male, according to PayScale.
