comScore's MobiLens service today, reporting that the survey of more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers found Samsung as the top handset manufacturer overall with 24.5% market share. Google Android led among smartphone platforms with 36.4% market share.

In the OEM market share, Samsung ranked top with 24.5% of U.S. mobile subscribers, followed by LG 20.9%, Motorola 15.6%, Apple jumped to #4 with 8.3%, while RIM rounded out the top five with 8.2% share.

In smartphone operating system, Android ranked as the top with 36.4% of U.S. smartphone subscribers, up 5.2 percentage points. Apple also gained share, capturing #2 position with 26.0%, RIM ranked third with 25.7%, followed by Microsoft 6.7%.

In April, 68.8% subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device. Browsers were used by 39.1%, while downloaded apps were used by 37.8%. Accessing of social networking sites or blogs increased 2.7 percentage points, representing 28.0%. Playing games comprised 26.2%, while listening to music represented 18.0%.
