Do you know, Microsoft is making big bucks off of Android sales, and hopes to make more?

It's true, for every Android phone that HTC sells, Microsoft gets $5, according to Walter Prichard, a Citi analyst.

HTC, based in Taiwan, has its American headquarters in Bellevue. And it's paying Microsoft as part of a settlement in a patent case Microsoft brought against HTC, according to Prichard:

Microsoft gets $5 for every HTC phone running Android, according to Citi analyst Walter Pritchard, who released a big report on Microsoft this morning.

Microsoft is getting that money thanks to a patent settlement with HTC over intellectual property infringement.

Microsoft is suing other Android phone makers, and it's looking for $7.50 to $12.50 per device.

Based on an estimate that HTC has shipped 30 million Android devices, Asymco calculates that Microsoft has seen $150 million in revenue from Android. With Microsoft selling 2 million Windows Phones licenses, its Windows Phone revenue comes in at $30 million.

That would make Microsoft's Android revenue five times what Microsoft collects in Windows Phone revenue, according to Asymco.
