Real Clear Politics is reporting that the Illinois Representative Jesse Jackson Junior, who also owns an iPad, is blaming Apple for "eliminating thousands of American jobs." During a speech on the House Floor on Friday, he asked the question, "why do you need to go to Borders anymore?" and claimed that the reason for jobs being lost and store being closed down is that now users are able to "buy an iPad and download your newspaper, download your book and download your magazine."
It seems that Jackson has changed his views significantly since last month when he said that the iPad was "revolutionizing the country" and that it would "fundamentally alter how we'll educate our children" followed by making a suggestion that there should be an "iPad for every student in the nation".
Barnes & Noble did say that they were being forced to cut jobs due to a decline in physical book purchases but this seems more like a publicity stunt than anything else.
