Yahoo!'s new and improved Yahoo! Search BOSS V 2 is launched. BOSS V2 provides a unique combination of data, display flexibility and monetization to empower you, the developer, to build great applications.

BOSS V2

The notable changes are:

Yahoo says that "it's taken 7-10 days for developers they've worked with to upgrade their services from version 1 to version 2. Version 1 of the API will be going away on July 20th, so all services will need to be upgraded by then. They don't have an upgrade guide that outlines what to look for when modifying services that use BOSS but say they'll be available to answer questions in their Yahoo user group."

BOSS 1 allowed white labeling, but now, services will have to clearly state that results are “Created with Yahoo Search”, use Yahoo logo, and link back to Yahoo BOSS site. The branding has to be included only once and can be on the About of FAQ page of the service.

To get started, visit the Yahoo! Search BOSS Page and go to the "How do I get Started section."

"We've a helpful tutorial on how to sign up and documentation on using the API. If you've any questions reach out to us on the BOSS Yahoo! Group -- we're always listening. This release also means we are shutting down BOSS V1 this summer, scheduled for July 20, 2011," Yahoo! said.
