Google and the British Retail Consortium entered into a alliance. John Gillan, Senior Industry Retail Head, Google, at the BRC's Multi-Channel Retail Conference, the BRC announced on Thursday. E-commerce traffic, trends, and multi-channel measurability are the focus of the new alliance.

The first ORM publication is due in mid-April in the UK, to accompany the monthly BRC - KPMG Retail Sales Monitor report.

Google Online Retail Monitor (ORM) will measure:

  • Unique visitors to retail websites: Changes and trends, comparing online-only retailers vs. brick-and-mortar stores that also have websites.
  • Geographic activity.
  • Smartphone traffic.
  • Most popular retail search terms.
