To celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Japanese artist Taro Okamoto, Google Japan today has a new Doodle dedicated to Okamoto. Replacing Google's "l" is one of Okamoto's most famous works, The Tower of the Sun, which was designed for the 1970 Osaka Expo and is located in Expo Commemoration Park in Osaka, Japan.

Okamoto Tar??, February 26, 1911 -- January 7, 1996) was a Japanese artist noted for his abstract and avant-garde paintings and sculpture.

He was known for the quote, "Art is Magic" and "Art is Explosion."[citation needed]

One of his most famous works, "Tower of the Sun," became the symbol of Expo '70 in Suita, Osaka, 1970. It shows the past (lower part), present (middle part), and future (the face) of the human race. It still stands in the center of the Expo Memorial Park.
