Notion Ink finally shipping their wildly popular "Adam tablet," that run a heavily modified Android 2.3 mobile OS "Eden". It's the first shipping device to carry NVIDIA's 1Ghz Tegra 2 dual-core processor and has a 1GB of low power DDR2 memory. The units currently shipping now only have 8GB of on board flash storage, much smaller than the storage capacity of say a Motorola Xoom which will ship with 32GB of storage. It also has a 10.1" screen, either LCD or a new lower power screen of the same size from Pixel Qi. It has support for 802.11b/g/n wireless as well as 3G.

The Adam's Eden UI, is pretty unique among Android skins. Instead of the traditional screen full of widgets and icons, typical of most Android devices, Eden shows up to three open apps on the screen at one time. Scrolling to the right reveals more (if you have more than three open) and there is even a Windows Flip 3D like app switcher built in. They've taken the traditional Android app drawer and redesigned it; Notion Ink calls it the "app ribbon". Instead of expanding to fill the screen, the ribbon occupies a one row wide scrollable space in the middle of the screen, with a quick search box located underneath.

adam vs. xoom

Currently the Adam sells for between $375 and $549, depending on the particular configuration you want.
