01-01-11. Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer 9 beta has now been downloaded more than 20 million times since its release in September 2010. It's also worth noting that IE9 market share has nearly reached 0.46% of internet users worldwide at year end.

And it's not just end users who have been bullish on IE9, Microsoft states that more than 900 sites have taken advantage of Internet Explorer 9's Windows 7 shell integration features.

With greatly improved JavaScript performance, hardware acceleration, and an increased focus on standards and compatibility, Microsoft is clearly determined to ensure the new browser is competitive with alternatives like Chrome, Firefox, and Opera.

"We've continued to invest in consumer privacy by introducing Tracking Protection, which helps consumers to identify and block many forms of undesired tracking of their online activity. We've also seen third-party validation of the security safeguards for consumers built into IE9 with a recent NSS Labs study showing how we lead the industry in protecting our customers against online threats," stated Microsoft.
