System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1 provides an integrated platform for automating and adapting your organization's IT service management best practices, such as those found in Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).

It provides built-in processes for incident and problem resolution, change control, and asset lifecycle management.

According to Microsoft, the upgrade from RTM to SP1 must be performed in a specific order:

  1. Start with the data warehouse management server. Your SCSM 2010 management servers can work with SCSM 2010 SP1 version of your data warehouse management server.
  2. After the upgrade to the data warehouse management server has been completed, upgrade the initial Service Manager management server. If you created more than one SMMS, the initial SMSS would have been the first one that you created.
  3. Upgrade the Service Manager consoles, any additional SMMS, and the Self-Service Portal," the Redmond company stated.
