Microsoft has launched a new "Windows Phone Government Apps Contest" for state and local government partners.
"Beginning on Dec'15, 2010, WP7 partners, developers and developer hobbyists can enter their state and local government apps for WinP7 that can help cut costs while improving citizen access to government services or help to present useful info. Of course, the contest is also a great chance for partners to obtain new revenue by developing innovative apps.
The deadline for submissions is Feb 18, 2011 at 12:00 midnight (PST), and qualifying WP developers (up to 3 developers per team) can each win an Xbox 360 4GB console with Kinect if the state and local government app you build is one of 10 winners selected by panel of judges for a chance to. The winning apps will be announced at the 2011 US Public Sector CIO Summit in Redmond on February 24, 2011," stated Microsoft.
Here're some app suggestions: Public transit information, traffic conditions, government news sources, citizen issue reporting, information about legislative activities, traffic conditions, medical facility locator, emergency notification, government office or services locator, or TownHall apps.
A complete description of the rules, eligibility, and entry requirements can be found on the contest Web site.
