Apple is aiming to release iOS 4.3 on December 13th. According to a ''reliable source'', the Mac maker had already been planning for an iOS update release in mid-December while version 4.2.1 was in development. It's also reported that 4.3 will address user complaints with the much-hyped AirPlay feature and 3rd-party apps such as Hulu and Netflix.

But the show-stopping feature will be app subscriptions, giving developers and publishers the ability to charge for daily, weekly, monthly or yearly updates or editions of their apps. It has been pointed out that such a feature would be needed to support ''The Daily'' a rumoured ''iPad newspaper'' being cooked up by Apple and Murdoch's News Corp, which'll cost you somewhere in the region of 99c a week.

The Daily : iPad Newspaper

What has also been divulged was that said tablet-only newspaper would be launching in "beta mode sometime around Christmas" and that it would be "introduced to public on the iPad and other tablet devices in early 2011." Given that it's already fast approaching Dec, should News Corp be keeping to time, The Daily beta should arrive any day now. The problem is, even with iOS 4.2, the iPad, or any iDevice for that matter, can't currently support subscriptions.

Daring Fireball's John Gruber has it that Apple and News Corp, plus potentially other news media companies, will hold a joint press announcement over newspaper subscriptions on the iPad.
