Google becomes one of the early adopters of Twitter's "Promoted Accounts" advertising program. In the screenshot below, right at the top, under the "Who to follow" heading, is an ad encouraging to follow Google Mobile's Twitter account, @GoogleMobile.

Twitter formally launched Promoted Accounts in October with "only a handful of companies" in the program.

Google has never been adverse to advertising on other web properties.

TechCrunch points out that Microsoft's also advertising "windowsphone" as a Promoted Trend (see pic below).
