Bing Conspicuously 'Porn Free' on Windows Phone 7

Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system offers broad web, news and local results, but doesn't offer an image search feature like the one in the Bing apps for iPhone or Android.

In a statement, a Microsoft representative said "WP7 team "optimized Bing search in WinP for the mobile experience, focusing heavily on location and location search, tight integration with the phone hardware and software, which includes the Search Button and quicklinks that instantly map addresses on the phone. We'll of course look at adding new capability over time based on customer feedback.""

There is evidence to suggest that Bing on WinPe is more incomplete than it's purposefully prudish.

In its own app approval process for WinP7, Microsoft has followed Apple's lead in trying to keep its device as family friendly as possible -- saying that it'll turn down sexually explicit porn and gratuitously violent apps submitted for inclusion in its mobile marketplace.

The availability of image search in Microsoft's Bing app for Google's Android mobile platform is less notable than the availability on iPhone given the relative lack of restrictions on porn in the Android Market.

For the record, Bing image search and the safe search on/off toggle are available via mobile web browsers on WP7 and other mobile phones, at m.bing.com.
