Gartner's Q3 smartphone data is out, and Android continues to grow by leaps and bounds. According to latest report, Android accounted 25.5% of worldwide smartphone sales, making it the No. 2 mobile operating system, rising from a 3.5% marketshare in the Q3'09. Apple's iOS, on the other hand, dropped from last year, from 17.1% in 2009 to 16.6% in 2010. Symbian took the top spot with 36.6% of sales share.

Gartner also report that global mobile phone sales totaled 417 million units in the Q3'10, a 35% increase from the Q3'09. Smartphone sales grew 96% from the Q3 last year, and smartphones accounted for 19.3% of overall mobile phone sales in the Q3'10.
