It seems Google's Chrome OS project is almost ready for the masses, according to a report;

"Hardware companies in Asia are putting the finishing touches on smartbooks running Chrome OS, with the intention of shipping them later this month. Acer and Hewlett Packard are expected to launch Chrome OS systems in Dec."

Chrome Os

The OS is planned to be put onto "smartbooks," which's a device slightly smaller than a netbook that has the internals of a smartphone.

Google will produce an ARM-based Chrome notebook manufactured by Inventec and is expected to ship 60,000-70,000 units initially. The device willn't be sold through retail channels, and instead will use a strategy similar to how they sold the Nexus One.

The Chrome OS Web Store is also expected to open its doors with the release of Google's Chrome OS notebook.
