Microsoft's providing Los Angeles Schools with over $1 million grant to purchase new software and hardware for the two schools at Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez Learning Center. This grant will help bring state-of-the-art technology to campus, helping bridge the technology gap of this underserved community.

The grant also includes a $50,000 cash donation for ongoing technical support, teacher and student training, curriculum, and mentoring opportunities for students to learn about and explore careers. The goal is to create an instructional model that can be replicated and scaled throughout LA Unified School District and elevate teacher and student technology skills, thereby preparing youth for the competitive LA and U.S. job market.

"New software for all 420 computers on campus, including Windows 7, Office 2010, Microsoft Math and Publisher, will help ensure students are learning what they'll encounter in workplace. Visual Studio will aid computer science teachers and classes, and Expression Web will expand the capabilities in all art, design and computer classes, and help teach Web and graphic design."
