Microsoft in 33 languages worldwide released the Windows Internet Explorer 9 beta. Over 70 top websites: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn, and global brands: Quiksilver, Red Bull, Livestrong and Amazon are showcasing experiences that take advantage of IE9's ability to tap into the power of PC and modern standards such as HTML5, Chakra to offer rich immersive experiences, and to integrate sites seamlessly with Windows 7, at the Beauty of the Web event in San Francisco.

Features include:

  • Pinned Sites allows accessing favorite websites directly from Win7 Taskbar. The site's branding comes through both in the icon and in site colors in navigation buttons.
  • JumpLists offer quick and easy way to get to common website task. For Pinned Sites where developers have created JumpList, users can quickly create new e-mail message, check their inbox, change music station, accept friend's invitation or see breaking news.
  • Tear-off tabs and Windows Aero Snap tabs enable users to show two sites or pages side by side. To tear off a tab and snap it, user simply clicks a tab and drags it to the edge of the screen. Content on the site is rendered continuously, and videos continue to play when snapping a window in place, providing a fluid experience just like a native application.
