Infinity Ward disappointed PC gamers when it launched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 without dedicated servers or mod tools. Now to correct this, Treyarch expressed an interest in dedicated servers and modding tools for Call of Duty: Black Ops (hitting store shelves on Nov 9). Speaking on Call of Duty: Black Ops Community Forums, a Treyarch developer posting as "pcdev" made the official announcement:

"There're some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that don't easily fit the modtools paradigm," pcdev wrote. "We've looked at it close enough to see that it's non-trivial and we'll have to pick it up again post-launch. Right now we're completely focused on finishing the game. And, dev console: confirmed."
