Research In Motion Ltd., plans to introduce a tablet computer in November to compete with Apple's iPad, according to people familiar with company's plans….tablet device is dubbed as "Blackpad". RIM, based in Waterloo, Ontario, acquired the Internet rights to blackpad.com this month, according to Whois database.

"Blackpad will have same dimensions as iPad, "a 9.7-inch diagonal screen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to Internet through their BlackBerry smartphones. When not near Wi-Fi "hotspots," people could connect wirelessly to their mobile phone with Bluetooth and then to Internet. It'll also have front- and back-facing cameras for videoconferencing. RIM's tablet will capitalize on BlackBerry's e-mail capabilities and phone's popularity with corporate users. The tablet will be closely integrated with smartphone's e-mail system and will have similar security for messaging," said the person.

RIM is also hosting an event in New York on Aug. 3 to debut its BlackBerry 9800 slider phone. The device will feature a full touchscreen like Apple's iPhone and a slideout Qwerty keyboard to allow for easy e-mail typing.
