At Google I/O developer conference, Google previewed "Places API," that allow apps to search for Places, and obtain detailed information about individual places selected by users. Google announced that "they're beginning to open Places API for business. The developers getting initial access are those working on check-in services "we've now begun reaching out to developers who've expressed an interest in building check-in apps using API, including those working on client apps for Buzz API," informs Google.

"We're going to focus initially on check-in apps. These're the apps that we feel API currently caters to well, and we're excited to work with developers building these apps to understand their requirements, and ensure that we're offering them best possible experience," added Google.
