This article describes an update that "improves the reliability and performance of 4KB sector hard disk drives on a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Note 4KB sector hard disk drives may use 512B emulation technology. This technology provides an emulation to enable the drive controller and the operating system to use 4KB sectors as 512 Byte Logical Block Address. These drives are also known as 512B emulated hard disk drives," stated Microsoft.

Microsoft released an hotfix that resolves the following issues in KB982018, additionally, this rollup package adds 4KB sector drive support for following built-in storage drivers: Iastorv.sys, Amdsata.sys, Nvraid.sys, Nvsata.sys.
