J Allard, the head of design team at Microsoft, responsible for ‘Xbox, Xbox 360 and Zune,’ has been out of the limelight for over a year, no interviews no appearence at new launches. The web is buzzing around that “with a possibility that Allard leaving Microsoft, over the cancellation of his courier project”. Microsoft officially acknowledged of nixing its Courier Tablet. Allard was the champion of dual-screen tablet. Courier made it as far as an incubation before Steve Ballmer & Co. decided not to pursue the project, and following, on May 18, Microsoft posted changes in the Todd Holmdahl, profile, who’s now listed as CVP, Interactive Entertainment Business, Incubation, “‘one of the founding fathers of the Xbox brand,’ and recruited and developed an exceptionally “talented team including currently developing” ‘Project Natal.’” Microsoft repsonded “We’re not commenting on ‘rumor or speculation.’”

However, an insider with no direct knowledge of Allard’s current whereabouts or plans, said “Allard was a key guy on Xbox….He was regarded as being a bit (Apple CEO Steve Jobs) like in that he understood the importance of design, not just function. Hence if he departs Microsoft would lose an important design advocate and innovator.”
