Microsoft released a CTP of SQL Server Driver for PHP 2.0 with support for PDO (PHP Data Objects). This new technical bridge for PHP developers that’ll reduce complexity of targeting multiple databases and will make it easier for PHP apps to interoperate smoothly with SQL Server 2005 and later. SQL Server Driver for PHP 2.0 with PDO will enable popular PHP apps like Drupal 7 to use PDO “PHP style” and interoperate smoothly with SQL Server database. For PHP developers, this’ll reduce complexity of targeting multiple databases and will make it easier to take advantage of SQL Server features (like business intelligence & reporting) as well as SQL Azure features (like exposing OData feeds). New version now supports API defined by PDO. To provide better support and consistency for both API, we’re creating a common layer including core features shared across two API, as shown in the diagram. Refer to documentation that’s installed with driver for a description of new features in this release. SQL Server Driver for PHP is a PHP 5 extension that allows for reading and writing of SQL Server data from within PHP scripts. The extension provides a native procedural and PDO interfaces for accessing data in all editions of SQL Server 2005 and later including SQL Azure.
