Pulling another page from Apple's playbook, Microsoft has started sending out cryptic invitations to an April 12 event in San Francisco, with the headline "It's Time to Share," according to Engadget. And Apple this morning surprised the industry with the news that it will be unveiling its iPhone OS 4.0 at an event this Thursday. The widespread assumption is that Microsoft's event is to unveil the company's "Pink" phones, the successor (at least in spirit) to the Sidekick devices from Danger Inc., the company that Microsoft acquired in 2008. See this Gizmodo post from last month for some purported spy shots showing what the devices will look like. Paul Thurrott says definitively that this will not be a Courier event, rather it will be entirely focused on Pink phones, as does CNET's Ina Fried, who adds that they'll be released on Verizon as rumored. We can't say we're surprised, but we're seriously hoping Microsoft makes that tablet a reality.
