At SES New York, Microsoft shared some new Bing features rolling out later this spring and summer:

  • The most noticeable one is unofficially called the “Bing Box.” For popular search categories such as celebrities, cities, companies, musicians, movies, places, and sports, the top result’ll be Bing Box, which’ll pull in an image and a link to official site, along with some relevant data. For pop music star Lady Gaga, it might be concert dates and realtime Tweets. For “Miami Beach,” it might be a thumbnail of a map, current weather, flight deals, and a list of neighborhoods. Underneath search bar will be a new set of tabs appropriate to search term. For a rock band, tabs may include events, news, videos, and images. While a search for a place will bring up tabs for maps, events, news and weather.
  • Quick Tabs in the Explore Pane (left rail) to give customers 1-click tools to help refine queries and help them go from question to decision.
  • Microsoft has tapped Twitter for an additional source of data. “we’ll test new experiences for real-time results. For e.g., when you search for publication such as New York Times, Bing not only gives quick access to specific sections of destination website, but also provides ‘most popular shared links’ from that publication.
  • Map Apps,” enables Bing to bring relevant data from partners to this spatial search platform. we previewed a new map app, which brings real time data from foursquare into Silverlight maps experience to give customers a real time sense of what’s going on as they plan activities in their own neighborhoods or while on road.
  • On Bing Maps, Foursquare map app will show places where people’ve left comments and tips. App’ll allow user to see Foursquare check-ins, badges, and mayorships within a Bing Map. In addition, anyone will be able to see tips from any foursquare customer and zoom to location for visualization. Bing is also adding more eye-catching graphical elements to its autosuggest.
  • Finally, Bing is creating a dedicated page for all automobile searches, much like it already does for events and recipes.
