Microsoft made available Microsoft Tag and added Tag Reader to Google Android - it’s now available for download directly from the Android Market on Android phone by searching for ‘Microsoft Tag’. “It’s important to give more people access to Tag because there’s huge demand for reliable mobile barcoding – businesses and consumers are eager to find creative ways to use their phone and hyperlink the real world. We want to make this easier, so over the next few months we’re making changes to our website — such as including many more ways to learn about and experience Tag and get inspired by how others are using Tag today — to help better meet the needs of our Tag community,” stated. It's not a complete surprise, given that Tag applications are already available for Symbian, iPhone, Blackberry and other mobile devices, in addition to Windows Mobile. But it's notable as an implicit acknowledgment by Microsoft of the traction Google has quickly gained in the market for mobile phones. Microsoft Tag, the company's alternative to QR Codes, lets people and companies create custom color codes that can be scanned with the mobile app, to automatically take them to mobile sites designated by the creator of the tag.
