When you try to connect Wireless LAN from the tray icon, Explorer may crash and restart. When this issue occurs, the following event message may be logged in the Application log (see pic). This issue tends to occur when you select a Wireless LAN from 5 or more access points. Steps to reproduce problem: 1. Click one Wireless LAN connection from the tray icon 2. In the connection dialog window, a) Enter Security Key b) Double click the OK button. “This problem occurs because the message handling for Wireless connection isn’t fast enough and causes overflow in the message queue. To resolve: Try reconnect to Wireless LAN again after Explorer automatically restarts. Trying in a place where there are less than 5 access points is more successful,” explained Microsoft in KB979244.
