After keynote addressing at CES, Steve Ballmer headed to speak at Sprint's event of unveiling new “Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot” by Sierra Wireless. Instead of announcing speculated Windows Mobile WiMax phone in conjunction with Sprint, Ballmer spoke about benefits of pervasive connectivity, and how it would help enable Microsoft's "three screens and a cloud" strategy of connecting PCs, TVs and mobile devices. A Sprint representative said afterward that Ballmer was there because of the role Microsoft plays in a range of devices (Xbox 360, Zune, PCs, etc.) that'll work in conjunction with Overdrive!!.

“Overdrive allows you to connect up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices simultaneously--including laptops, gaming devices, cameras and even smartphones from other carriers--through a single connection (via Wi-Fi), to a network that’s up to 10 times faster than today's 3G speeds from any national wireless carrier. There's no need to wait for 4G devices to enjoy benefits of 4G: Overdrive creates a connection between Sprint 4G network and virtually all of hundreds of millions of Wi-Fi-enabled electronics devices owned by or available to customers today,” Press Release.
