On Nov 23, Saks Fifth Avenue, New York – This year’s windows featured scenes from Saks’ holiday children’s book, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Flake” – story of snowflake named Twinkle. More than 20 Windows 7 video monitors animated book’s key scenes. Also, Saks and Microsoft created an interactive in-store lounges of Windows 7-based PCs for shoppers with experts to help. In addition, holiday shoppers were invited to tweet their holiday wishes using #holidaywindows and have them appear in Saks windows, making windows interactive.
But despite best efforts of Mac fans, to take over Windows 7 displays by sending constant stream of "Get a Mac" tweets, Microsoft successfully thwarted their attempts. “Hundreds of pro-Mac messages appeared in raw Twitter feed, causing Mac faithful to think they had hijacked public displays. But Microsoft says: "As such, there’re filters in place to make sure that in opening them up to Twitter feeds we had content that was appropriate for general public to view and was within the holiday theme. This filter includes any attempt to spam windows with negative commentary that isn’t in the spirit of the holidays. The windows’ve not been hijacked, and none of Mac-oriented tweets showed up in windows."
