Google is testing a new effect in which everything on the Google homepage aside from the search box and Google’s logo, only revealing the rest of the navigation elements with a nifty fade effect when you move your mouse. A few notable omissions from the ‘fade-in’ homepage though, you’ll notice that “Google Search” and “I’m Feeling Lucky” button are both missing.

In the video below, both buttons do appear, so it looks like Google is testing multiple versions, reports:

    I noticed this yesterday but only get it in Chrome running on Linux. I think the omission of the search buttons will rather annoy some people, although I'm quite used to hitting enter to trigger the search anyway. Not sure I can see the point in the fade-in though.
