Microsoft is to backport Windows 7 features to Vista, and as an integral part of the process, also upgrading Vista’s graphics technology. In this regard, Microsoft released the Beta of Platform Update for Windows Vista – a collection of programming interfaces made available for use on previous Microsoft Windows operating systems. Downloading and running this script’ll enable you to obtain the Platform Update for Windows Vista, through Windows Update. Users running Vista SP2 will be able to access the new DirectX 11 package, and bring the operating system that succeeded Windows XP on par with Windows 7.
