Symantec rolled out a battery of new tools to helping PC users fight victimization includes new Quorum technology, integrated into the Norton Internet Security 10 and Norton Antivirus 10, plus a free tool known as the Norton Online Risk Calculator. Symantec's Quorum technology is aimed at identifying risks based on additional factors, such as whether a software program’s digitally signed, which site it comes from, and whether a program is so new that nothing much is known about it. “Downloads’re primary delivery mechanism for new malware, and especially for server-side polymorphism. We use Quorum to evaluate all downloads made from programs like Outlook, Firefox, and Internet Explorer via our Download Insight feature (see Viral’s description and video). Our products now tell you whether your download is safe, unsafe, or somewhere in between. And – if your download isn’t safe, our products take immediate, decisive action,” explained Norton blog.
