How to upgrade an existing domain and migrate replication of the SYSVOL folder to DFS Replication to improve the performance, scalability and reliability of SYSVOL replication. To improve the performance, scalability and reliability of SYSVOL replication, use DFS Replication (DFS-R) to replicate the SYSVOL folder, which stores Group Policy objects and logon scripts. To do so, you can either create a new domain that uses the Windows Server 2008 domain functional level, or you can use the procedure that is discussed in this document to upgrade an existing domain and migrate replication to DFS Replication.
