Microsoft informed that installing Office 2007 Service Pack 2 (download) on top of Office SharePoint Server 2007 (download), Project Server 2007, Form Server 2007, Search Server 2008 and Search Server 2008 Express would put the solutions on the path to expiration. The company mentioned that Windows SharePoint Services 3.0  was not affected by the bug in SP2. “This means SharePoint will expire as though it was a trial installation 180 days after SP2 is deployed, but it’ll not affect customer’s data, configuration or application code. A manual work-around is currently available and involves customers re-entering their Product ID number (PID) on the Convert License Type page in Central Administration, refer KB971620,” revealed Jeff Teper.

This is the reason I don't often update software after it was written there are always some kind of issues with the updates. I remember when XP SP2 was causing such a problem.
