Gmail Labs: Search Autocomplete features will get you suggestions as you type in the search box. One of the most popular searches in Gmail is for names or email addresses, so the first kind of suggestions you'll see are contacts. The new feature is especially useful if your search includes advanced search operators like to: or from: because it's easier to enter the sender or the recipient. Turn on Search Autocomplete from the Labs tab under Gmail Settings, and you can search in specific places (e.g. in chats or sent items), or search for messages with attachments of a certain type (e.g. docs or photos).

In a releated new, Gmail completed its 5 years, Gmail was launched on April 1st 2004, as an internal tool for Google employees, and is now used by tens of millions of people around the world in 52 languages.

Happy B’day Gmail!
