Via says its new "Windows 7-ready" VX855 will bring true 1080p HD video playback to netbooks and other compact, power-efficient devices. The chip combines northbridge and southbridge functionality, and is designed to match up with the company's x86 processors, the Eden, C7, and Nano. (The 64-bit Nano, a 65nm design with an out-of-order execution unit, has started to gain traction in mobile applications, most notably Samsung's recent NC20 netbook and Q1EX-71G ultra-mobile PC).
